Denis law rgu plus
Ran in partnership with robert gordon university
Inspired by our charity’s patron, Denis Law, Robert Gordon University (RGU) and Denis Law Legacy Trust wanted to create something that would recognise participation & motivation, a will to succeed and working hard to not just better yourself but also have an impact and legacy on others. These characteristics are exactly what helped shape Denis Law’s career into the great success it was and will also help shape the participants embarking on their Denis Law RGUplus journey.
In celebration of the shared values of Denis Law and RGUplus, this new award will recognise the commitment and social responsibility of people making a positive difference and lasting impact to both themselves and others through volunteering and other activities that add value to communities. This award will compliment all existing awards associated with RGU and help empower those who participate to leave a long-lasting transformative legacy for both themselves and others, just as Denis Law has through the work of Denis Law Legacy Trust in Aberdeen.
The Denis Law RGUplus will not just reward volunteers within the Denis Law Legacy Trust or RGU’s many volunteering opportunities but also people making a difference with other organisations in Aberdeen and beyond, for example with volunteering at Abernesseccessities or Befriend a Child to name just a couple. It will also enable us to recognise those volunteering at food banks in Manchester, a community centre in Glasgow or anyone else that inspires to be like Denis Law and aspire to be as best as they can be whilst helping others do the same.

Awardees
This award programme will recognise the value of citizenship whether as a volunteer in the community or volunteering within university life. For instance, as a school officer or a committee member of a sport club or student society.
The Denis Law RGUplus Award has been developed to recognise the skills and knowledge required to fulfil such roles effectively. These experiences build towards exceptional employability skills for now and the future.
The Denis Law RGUplus Award Programme aspires to be inclusive to all organisations that are listed with RGU:Union volunteering.
The award criteria will focus on engendering community on three levels:
Bronze - Participation
Silver - Impact
Gold - Legacy
The Awards can be gained sequentially or if there is supported evidence, can be applied for at any level. The Platinum award can be achieved without going through the other award stages, awarded for exceptional contribution to the life of a community - this can be within the university community or external individuals.
