Back in the game!
The 19th of August was a poignant date for the Denis Law Legacy Trust, it marked the return of our popular programme Streetsport. Between January and March 2020 the Streetsport programme in partnership with RGU had engaged with over 5,000 participations, the highest 1st quarter since founded. We all know what happened at the end of March and the effect it has had on us all, it was important at the time to help communities to be safe and our sessions were postponed almost immediately.
We had been patiently waiting for the greenlight from the Scottish Governement and after what felt like many months of preparation, we were finally able to action our new procedures. Increased infection control measures, education and support for young people and staff as well as modifications to activity have meant we have been able to return to play safely.
Funding received from various sources has meant we have been able to stock up on all necessary cleaning materials and provide every member of the team with PPE.
Hannah Clews, Streetsport Development Officer describes the impact of returning on Streetsport participants,
“It’s been a long wait but well worth it to see young people out in their communities and able to enjoy activity again. It has been difficult not being able to engage in the same way we once did but all the team have done a fantastic job of adapting to the regulations”.
Streetsport are currently running five diversionary sessions in Northfield, Mastrick and Torry. These are areas that have the space to accommodate our distancing measures, but we hope to expand once restrictions ease.
