Annual Community Festival Opens with Sport di Strada

Streetsport’s annual ‘Sport di Strada’ marked the beginning of the 2024 Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Festival at Aberdeen Sports Village.

Named in honour of Denis Law’s time playing in Italy, the Sport di Strada brings young people together from Streetsport sessions across Aberdeen to take part in a fun, but competitive, football tournament.

Run in partnership with Robert Gordon University, Streetsport delivers free weekly sports and creative activity sessions for young people living in Aberdeen’s most disadvantaged communities, 5-nights a week, 50-weeks a year.

The tournament saw 12 teams over two leagues, a youth and older tournament, competing for the top spot. In the end it was, once again, Northfield who triumphed in the younger tournament and Cruyff Court Denis Law from the older tournament who lifted the Streetsport cup.

This year also saw a team from Salford-based charity, Foundation 92 who were visiting Denis Law Legacy Trust as part of an annual Volunteer Transfer which sees volunteers from both organisations exchange places and work across the charities’ key programmes whilst experiencing new cultures, people and places.

The Denis Law Legacy Trust Community Festival will continue until July 28 with plenty of free activities and sport on offer for varying ages and abilities. The full timetable of activities can be found here.

Thanks must go to Euan Duff and Jake Irvine for their photography on the day and, of course, Central Coaches who provided free transport for all teams taking part in the tournament.
