Streetsport and Denis Law feature in Aberdeen's 2019 BBC SPOTY weekend

Aberdeen was in the grandest of spotlights last weekend as the brand new P&J Live arena hosted the 2019 BBC Sports Personality of the Year.

Sunday’s award ceremony shone the city in a new light to many as stars flooded the Granite City to be at one of the year’s biggest events.

What’s more, the BBC’s #FestivalOfSport at Aberdeen Sports Village welcomed hundreds of young participants, as well as a celebrity or two, to partake in free, fun sport.

Streetsport provided two inflatable pitches which attracted a sizeable crowd outside, keeping the volunteers and young participants warm and entertained

Inside, patron of the charity Denis Law was the centre of a Q&A with fellow footballing legends Willie Miller and Craig Brown as TV star Gabby Logan grilled them with questions about their glittering careers.

This preceded Q&A’s with both England cricket captain Eoin Morgan and BBC Lifetime Achievement Award winner Tanni Grey-Thompson.

On Sunday evening Denis Law, along with Princess Anne, had the privilege to present the 2019 SPOTY award to cricketer Ben Stokes after an incredible sporting summer for him.

This capped a fantastic weekend for not only the city but also for many individuals who had the opportunity to volunteer for Streetsport and the BBC and in the process meet many of their heroes.
